Fifth Third Bank Arts Night Out - Béatrice Coron
Béatrice Coron doesn’t so much tell stories, as cut them. The French-born artist creates intricate, fantastical worlds by slashing paper and Tyvek into beautiful silhouettes. For the last 20 years, she has explored visual storytelling through artist books, paper cutting and public art. Collecting memories from individuals and communities, she stages narrative allegories in silhouette to create a dialogue with the viewer in playful fantasies. These visual chronicles record archetypal stories that transcend time and space. Her work can be seen in major collections such as such the Metropolitan Museum, The Walker Art Center and The Getty.
The Fifth Third Bank Arts Night Out series began in the fall of 2012 as a theatrical series that brings visual art and the stage together for three one-of-a-kind performances in the museum’s beautiful Renaissance Auditorium. The 2015 season features the nostalgic singing trio Ladies for Liberty, renowned artist Béatrice Coron and a revival of the popular stage play Grandma Moses: An American Primitive by Oldcastle Theatre Company.
