Lift Your Leg to Help Animals Goes Virtual
When the state of Ohio moved to a Shelter In Home status and large gatherings were banned, it looked like the SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center’s 9th annual Lift Your Leg race would be cancelled or reschedule for Fall. Instead, SICSA and the Lift Your Leg committee made the brave decision to pivot the race to a virtual event in which guests can participate safely from their own homes and neighborhoods.
“I am a marathoner”, Event Chair Mark Schenk shared. “So the idea of not having an in-person, timed race was disappointing at first. But the committee really got into the idea. We came up with weekly contests and activities to keep people engaged. “
The four-week event starts on Saturday, May 9, 2020 and runs through June 6, 2020. June 6th was the original date for the annual 1mile, 5k, and 10k race which has started and ended at Centerville High School over the last few years. This year’s virtual event will have weekly challenges you can do in your own neighborhood and then share photos on the event’s social media for a chance to win weekly and even overall event prizes. Week one is “Warm Up Week”, which will including a Bingo Card scavenger hunt of items in the community you might see while you are running and walking around your neighborhood.
Registration to participate in this one-of-a-kind event is free, with peer-to-peer donations encourages in support of SICSA’s essential, life-saving mission. A limited-edition Virtual Lift Your Leg t-shirt is also available for purchase for a small fee.
