Enjoy some classics from the 1960s! All films will be shown at Centerville Library on Friday nights starting at 6PM. This month-long film series complements the March scholar series on the 1960s and is funded by Friends of WCPL. No reservations are necessary. For mixed audiences.
March 6 - Mary Poppins, Walt Disney production, c1964. For all ages, rated G. The instant classic tells the story of a magical nanny who comes to work for a banker's unhappy family. Enjoy the movie that spawned the blockbuster Disney film Saving Mr. Banks, c2014. Starring Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews.
March 13 - The Birds, directed by Walter Hitchcock, c1963. For Adults and Older Students, PG-13. A stunning thriller directed by the master of horror. Starring Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren and Suzanne Pleshette.
March 20 - Dr. No, directed by Terrence Young, c1962. For Adults and Older Students, PG. James Bond, one of the most successful film franchises in history, launched with Dr. No. Look for all the key elements common in the series yet today! Starring Sean Connery and Ursula Andress.
March 27 - In the Heat of the Night, directed by Norman Jewison, c1967. For Adults and Older Students, not rated. Winner of the Best Picture Oscar. Signifying a major shift in films, this classic drama mystery about a murder in a southern town gave rise to dialogue across the country about topics that had rarely ever been discussed. Starring Rod Steiger and Sidney Portier.
