Opera Star Recital - Ryan Speedo Green
Ryan Speedo Green has blazed an astounding trail leading from a challenging early life to the great opera stages of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, and the Vienna State Opera.
Despite a hard beginning and a stint with juvenile detention at the age of 12, Green graduated with music degrees from Hartt School of Music and Florida State University. Recognition came quickly for the young bass-baritone after his 2011 win at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. After David Bergner wrote of Green and his inspirational win in The New York Times, HarperCollins expressed interest in publishing his biography, Sing for Your Life: A Story of Race, Music, and Family. Even the book has garnered rave reviews. Publishers Weekly called it “gripping and inspiring,” and soprano Renee Fleming described it as “absolutely riveting.”
