Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Is Calling All Local Guitarists

Do you or someone you know have an "ax" to grind? As part of the "Guitar Heroes" concert we want to show off some virtuosic Dayton guitar talent. Enter now for your opportunity to perform on stage at the Schuster Center along with the DPO and Jeans 'n Classics during the first concert of the new Dayton Philharmonic "Summer in the City" Music Festival July 10th.

TWO* WINNERS
Each Guitarist winner will take the lead role on a classic rock tune—backed by the full Dayton Philharmonic and Jeans ’n Classics July 10, 2015—for an audience of 2,000 music fans. Each Winner receives a shiny new ax (specific model to be announced)—plus four front-row tickets to Guitar Heroes.

THREE* RUNNERS-UP
Each of the three Runners-up is invited to join The Fries Band to perform a tune on stage at the Summer in the City Street Party in front of the Schuster Center July 10, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Each Runner-up receives $200 and two front-row tickets to Guitar Heroes.

ONLINE REGISTRATION, NOW THROUGH JUNE 9 MIDNIGHTPlease follow this link to complete the form. All fields must be filled out. There is no age restriction, but the contestants must have a permanent residence in Dayton, Ohio area counties (see list on pull-down menu on form).

FIRST ROUND—A display web page of guitarists entering online will go live starting Monday, June 1, 2015. These entrants will be vetted by Dayton Philharmonic staff. There will be a voting feature on the display page, and residents from the Miami Valley are encouraged to vote for their favorite candidates. The Dayton vote tallies will be used, in concert with the Judges’ votes, to select a field of Finalists who will be identified and notified on June 11 by e-mail. All other contestants will be notified at that time as well.

IMPORTANT—You may list only one YouTube video and to qualify, it must show you playing the guitar. Demonstrate your best chops. Of course, Dayton residents and Judges may choose to take into consideration any other videos or sound files current on the web: other YouTube videos, your site if you have one, your Facebook page, etc. But the key starting point is the YouTube video URL that you provide below.

SECOND ROUND—Finalists will be invited to play live on June 13, 2015 for our panel of Judges (competition starts at 7:00 pm and ends as late as 11 pm). This event will be held at The Dayton Beer Company; Beer Hall & Production Brewery (Downtown Dayton, 41 Madison Street, Dayton, OH 45402) and will be open to the general public. Contestants will be accompanied by a provided rhythm section and sound equipment but must bring their own guitar. Judges will attend personally. The final Winners and Runners-up will be selected at this time by the Judges based on solo skills, audience engagement, general demeanor, sensitivity to playing with ensemble, and overall grasp of the rock idiom.

FINAL WINNERS AND RUNNERS-UP—Public announcement of the Winners and Runners-up will occur on June 20, 8:00 at the Evening with Indigo Girls concert with Dayton Philharmonic and announced via WTUE and in the Dayton Daily News on Sunday, June 21. Winners and Runners-up will each receive a pair of tickets to the Indigo Girls concert. A press photo opportunity for Dayton Guitar Heroes will be scheduled at 7:30 before the concert.
