Get a Sneak Peek into the Hottest Housing Developments in Dayton
Downtown Dayton is the hottest address for residential living, and prospective homebuyers, renters, and the real-estate curious can get a glimpse at what’s behind those doors during the free, annual Downtown Housing Tour, taking place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
It seems developers can’t built units fast enough to keep up with demand. For the past several years, downtown has been at the top of the region’s occupancy list, averaging only 3-4% vacancy rates. Since 2010, 371 new housing units have been completed, and there are still 622 more in the pipeline. “Downtown housing has been an important part of downtown’s revitalization,” said Downtown Dayton Partnership President Sandra Gudorf. “We’ve seen housing catalyze other types of development in other cities, and we made it a huge priority of the Greater Downtown Dayton Plan. We’re seeing a lot of momentum, and we’re making it the centerpiece of our first DP&L Summer in the City event lineup.”
Whether it’s apartments, condos or townhomes, more and more Dayton denizens are choosing to live in a bike-able, walk-able urban environment, close to their favorite shops, restaurants, brewpubs, theaters, museums, and recreational amenities. The Downtown Housing Tour, sponsored by Vectren and the Downtown Priority Board, offers nine locations within easy walking distance, or guests can reach each destination using a Link Dayton Bike Share bicycle or the complimentary hop-on, hop-off shuttle, provided by Greater Dayton RTA. Stops are located near each tour location.
Information stations will be placed in the Oregon District, near Fifth Third Field on Monument Avenue, and near the 2nd Street Market, offering tour maps, reusable totes, Find It Downtown guides, and more information about downtown amenities. Downtown Housing Tour guests may start their tour at these info tables or simply visit a participating location. Maps are available online at bit.ly/housingtour and downtowndayton.org, or pick up a copy from the management offices of the participating locations (listed below) as well as downtown businesses and the DDP office.
After the tour, guests are encouraged to visit other downtown attractions. Use “The Fun Doesn’t Stop Here” flier found in the info bag, or look up information about local dining, shopping, and entertainment options right from a smartphone at mobile.downtowndayton.org to plan the rest of the day.
