More than baseball back with Dragons home opener

Spring has finally arrived and as the sun comes out to play, so too will the Dayton's own professional baseball franchise, the Dayton Dragons.

This will mark the 14th Opening Day of one of Dayton's premier entertainment venues, and the team's 914th consecutive sell-out, a professional sports record the club continues to extend.

That doesn't mean you can't get tickets if you want to come out to a game. It is one of the hottest tickets in all of sports, but be sure to check with the box office or online at DaytonDragons.com for a very affordable night out; there are options as low as $7 to get you in the gate.

Weather permitting, The Dragons, the Cincinnati Reds Class A affiliate, will square off against the Great Lakes Loons from Fort Wayne, Indiana starting at 7:00 p.m this evening.

UPDATE: --The Midwest League game between the Dayton Dragons and Great Lakes Loons scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at Fifth Third Field in Dayton has been postponed due to rain.  The Dragons 2013 home opening night game will now be played on Friday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. against the Loons.  Many of the same opening night festivities scheduled for Thursday will take place on Friday.

Of course, a Dayton Dragons game isn't just about the baseball game, it's full of entertainment for the entire family.

The plaza in front of Fifth Third Field will be poised for family fun prior to the game. Face painting booths, balloon artists on stilts, and even a live petting zoo will fill the corner of Patterson and Monument along with live music from Dayton locals The Horsefeathers Dixieland Band.

The high flying action will continue with skydivers flying into the ballpark with the red, white and blue to kick off the baseball season.

After the national anthem from 11-year-old Loveland native Olivia Loeffler, the club will release doves and it will finally be time for the first pitch of the 2013 Dragons season.
