No white Christmas this year, but we will see something in the sky not seen since the year the original Star Wars movie was released - a full moon.

No White Christmas, but there will be a rare Cold Moon

If you've been dreaming of a white Christmas this year, keep dreaming - it's just not cold enough, darn it.  But, if the weather cooperates, we'll be in for a special surprise lighting up the sky this Christmas - we may just see a full moon.

This full Moon is also called the "Cold Moon".  According to the Farmer's Almanac, it was known as the "Full Cold Moon" in Native American cultures since this is the month the winter cold fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark.

So how rare is a full moon over Christmas?  The last one occured back in 1977 - the year the original Star Wars movie was released (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope).  The next one won't occur again until 2034.
