Link Dayton bike-share adds new locations on UD campus
Bike Miami Valley and Greater Dayton RTA’s program, Link: Dayton Bike Share continues the expansion of its program on the University of Dayton campus this fall. The University currently supports five Link locations, and today, campus will add three more with its continued sponsorship of the Link program.
“As a founding sponsor, the University is pleased to continue to support Link and increase the number of locations on campus. Link has been a great resource for our students to help them get to class, and we look forward to encouraging students to use the bikes to get to The Hub at the Dayton Arcade," said UD President Eric F. Spina.
“The University of Dayton’s commitment to active transportation is outstanding. They were recently awarded a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Campus designation from the League of American Bicyclists for their support of biking on campus,” says Bike Miami Valley Executive Director Laura Estandia. “Plus, the campus is extremely walkable, which greatly reduces the need for a single occupancy vehicle. Encouraging more people to take biking and walking trips reduces carbon emissions and keeps our community cleaner and healthier.”
Before COVID, student ridership made up nearly a quarter of Link’s annual trip activity. “When we surveyed students, and asked them what would encourage them to take more trips, 74% of respondents indicated that more hub locations would get them to ride more,” said Estandia. “We hope to see even more adoption of the Link system this fall with the additional locations.”
New bike-sharing stations serving the UD area will be located at the Brook Center, 1401 S. Main St., and Fitz Hall. Existing stations are located on Brown Street near Caldwell apartments and University Shops, RecPlex, Roesch Library and Alumni Hall.
This expansion is Link’s second this year. Support from the City of Dayton, CareSource and Five Rivers MetroParks allowed seven new locations to launch in May. To take advantage of the new locations, users can download the Link Dayton app to get riding.
Link: Dayton Bike Share currently operates 37 hubs and serves approximately 3,500 unique users annually.
