Dayton Metro Library Honors LGBTQ+ Elders
Dayton Metro Library has created a unique event that encompasses the essence of both Older Americans Month in May and PRIDE Month in June. LGBTQ+ Elders Day will be held in the Main Library, Eichelberger Forum, Monday, May 16, 2022 from 5- 7 pm.
This ceremony will celebrate the leadership and dedication elder members of the LGBTQ+ community have contributed to Dayton. “It is to remember and honor those who lived their lives fearlessly despite the possibility of repercussions,” said Suzanne Kirchner, Older Adult Services Librarian at Outreach Services.
“This ceremony will remind everyone that LGBTQ+ elders are today’s foundation for LGBTQIA+,” adds Becky Calfe, an Information Services Librarian at Main. For example, LBGTQ+ elders made a significant impact during the AIDS Epidemic of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
A panel discussion and reception will take place with select honorees sharing their experiences and taking questions from the audience. An official ceremony of thanks will conclude the night’s event.
Seating for this event is limited so advanced registration is preferred. For more information about this event and to register, please visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org/Programs or call the Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.
