There was a fabulous turnout last night at The Dayton Art Institute to preview "New Beginnings - An American Story of Romantics and Modernists in the West" - an amazing new exhibit featuring more than 150 works of art. "New Beginnings" is a creative look at the art of Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico from the 1910s through the 1930s.
New Beginnings is a creative look at the art of Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, primarily focusing on art from the 1910s through the 1930s. These sites were among the most important national and international arts colonies at the time, drawing American and European “movers and shakers” seduced by the culture and beauty of the region. This exhibition features more than 150 works of art and offers a fresh perspective of the evolution of art in America, from the era of Romanticism to Modernism. Marquee works by romantic painters are displayed alongside modernist artists and photographers, as well as artists who are either little known or under-recognized. By placing the works of lesser-known artists alongside pillars of the art community,?New Beginnings?offers a fresh perspective and new dimension to the history of the Taos and Santa Fe art colonies and their enduring legacy.
Below are a few photos from the event. The exhibit opens to the public this Saturday, February 18, and runs through May 21.
