Val’s Bakery, located at 25 S St Clair St in downtown Dayton, is experiencing a sweet taste of success after a viral video catapulted the small business into the spotlight. Owner Paige Woodie is thrilled with the attention but admits the sudden surge in demand has been overwhelming.
A TikTok and Instagram reel by food influencer Emily Pentecost declared Val’s Bakery the "best bakery in Ohio," sending droves of customers flocking to the shop. Woodie says the bakery typically sells out by early afternoon, but they're struggling to keep up with demand, even after fivefold increasing production.
To address the challenge, Val's Bakery posted on social media. "We are a very small bakery, we are making as much as possible," the post read. "Since the TikTok/reel went viral our traffic has increased 500%."
To maintain quality amidst the chaos, Val’s Bakery will be temporarily closing tomorrow (Wednesday) thru Friday to train new staff. The bakery, known for its flaky croissants (just like those in Europe, according to Pentecost), and creative coffee drinks, will reopen at 9 am Saturday for Dayton's Art in the City.
Can Val's Bakery Handle the Heat?
While the viral fame is undoubtedly exciting, Woodie is cautious about the future. Balancing rapid growth with preserving the bakery’s charm is a delicate act, while comments on social media have been overwhelmingly supportive.
"You're doing amazing!" one poster wrote. "The treats are worth waiting for and it absolutely shows their value. We LOVE Val's." Another wrote "I am so thrilled that the whole community (and beyond) have finally found your place and are enjoying the best pastries and coffee around."
Note: There's also a temporary limit of 2 pastries per person, per flavor, as stated on the bakery website valsbakerydayton.com.
