Oregon Express Celebrates 30 Years with Free Pizza
A trip into the Oregon Express is a walk down memory lane for many people in Dayton, including me. I've been talking to Joe and Susan about OE's 30th Anniversary for several months now. When I got word of the celebration plans, I found that I had more questions about OE, their history, and the future, so back I went.
When I asked Joe if he ever thought they'd still be here in 30 years, he said he and Terry were just kids in their 20's back then and not really thinking that far ahead. When I asked what was next, Joe was quick to pop off with "30 more!" If anybody can do it, these guys can.
Dayton natives Joe Bavaro and Terry Adkins opened Oregon Express September 16, 1983. The two met through Susan Adkins, Terry's sister and Joe's girlfriend at the time. Terry had a business degree and restaurant experience, and Joe, who'd been laid off from General Motors for four years was passionate about food and always dreamed of owning his own restaurant. Soon after the two young men began their quest to build Oregon Express into a successful business.
Then comes the love story; Joe and Susan got hitched, raised three great kids, still lavish compliments and appreciation on each other (I've witnessed this first hand!), and remain happily married. Susan joined the OE crew when the kids got older, and now she and Joe are a well oiled team. Terry became an educator, and performs most of his magic behind the scenes.
Joe and Susan love Dayton Ohio, are grateful to have loyal customers and staff, and are quick to credit the community for their success. It's no wonder Oregon Express has been open for 30 years. Come out, celebrate, and savor the thinnest pizza crust in Dayton. Happy Anniversary OE and cheers to 30 more!
Dayton natives celebrate 30 years in the pizza business.
Located in the heart of Dayton's Oregon Historic District, the Oregon Express has been a hub to many locals, talented musicians, and the creation of "The Reuben and Ranchero pizza" and many others.
Along with hosting several charitable events and being a long standing proprietor serving the Dayton community, Joe and Susan Bavaro say, "Thank you for all your support. We will continue to provide exceptional service to our patrons along with outstanding pizza creations and hosting the most talented musicians in the Dayton area.
