Ohio Wine Country
When you think of wine country, you probably think of places like California, France, and Italy, but believe it or not Ohio has several wineries - some of which are located just a short drive from Dayton.
Dayton is situated in the Ohio River Valley Region, a wine region including many wineries mostly located in the southern half of the state. Brandeberry Winery and Caesar Creek Vineyards are two of the closest wineries to Dayton and visiting these makes you feel like you're on some long weekend in wine country rather than a day trip 20 miles from home.
Brandeberry Winery
5118 W Jackson Rd
Enon, OH 45323
(937) 767-9103
Located in Enon, Ohio, Brandeberry Winery has a beautiful outdoor sitting area and tasting room. For your first visit, try the 6-tasting deal where you get to take your wine glass home with you. Each tasting is around $1 and they have plenty to choose from - all made on premises. They have a great selection of whites, reds, and sweet wines.
Standouts include their Riesling, which won a silver medal, their Merlot, which also won a silver medal, and Blackberry sweet wine, which is made with 100% blackberry juice.
They also have snacks available for purchase and tons of fun wine swag in their gift shop. Brandeberry is a must visit for any fan of local wine.
Caesar Creek Vineyards
962 Long Road
Xenia, OH 45385
(937) 479-4278
When driving to this remote area of Xenia, you definitely feel like you've left the city behind! Once you turn onto the gravel road, you're immediately transported to wine country - complete with a stunning view of the vineyards and a large pond. The sky stretches on for miles, completely unbound by tall buildings or trees. For a Daytonian, this is a completely different landscape!
The tasting room is located in a barn on the property and you have your choice of a wine tasting flight or a glass of several whites and reds. A flight of four wines is $5. The people who run this charming vineyard hold occasional events and crafts to make the experience even better!
