I've known Richard and Cathy Bell for many years and was thrilled when they moved back to Dayton OH last year, reviving the McNasty's brand on their food truck.
McNasty's Food Truck Serves Up Variety
I made another trip to the McNasty's Food Truck in their usual lunch spot on Courthouse Square in Downtown Dayton Thursday. It was my second visit this week, but the first for Dayton Local founder Chris James. There was plenty of activity thanks to The Square is Where; presented by the Downtown Dayton Partnership and Montgomery County offering lunchtime entertainment including a variety of performers, games, activities, outdoor seating, vendors, and food trucks all summer.
I was craving one of McNasty's hearty BLT sandwiches earlier this week. Whether I get it on toast or in a wrap, McNasty's is generous with their thick sliced bacon, hitting the spot perfectly. The knowledge that they use highest quality meats and cheeses from suppliers like Bowman & Landes and get their bread from Big Sky Bread Company is not lost on me, or their other customers. Way to support other local businesses McNasty's!
What is somewhat surprising is the variety of options McNasty's can offer from the truck. As variety goes, today's menu board included their popular Smoked Beef Brisket, Cuban Pulled Pork Ham & Swiss, BLT, Chicken Quesadilla, a Red Pepper Hummus or Turkey Wrap, Reuben with Kraut & Swiss, Pulled Pork with BBQ, Albacore Tuna, Spinach Quiche with Greens, and Grilled Ham & Cheese. All the sandwiches are served with chips, and the prices are very reasonable.
Ultimately, Chris opted for the Italian Sub loaded with ham, pepperoni, salami, provolone, mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onions, banana peppers, and Italian dressing. His eyes opened wide after he took the first bite, eager to relay how tasty the sub was. I was a little surprised at how fast he scarfed down lunch, evidence that it was really great.
I chose Roast Beef with smoked cheddar, creamy horseradish, lettuce, and tomato on rye bread. I love roast beef on rye, and enjoyed the smoky cheddar where I'd normally find Swiss cheese. Though the heft of this sandwich made it a challenge, I toughed it out and ate the whole thing! Somehow I don't think my Mother will be as proud of that fact as I am. I'm already contemplating my next visit…I see Cuban Pulled Pork in my future...
Oh, and don't be put off by the name ~ nasty it's not. I met a lady earlier this week who admitted she almost passed up McNasty's Food Truck because of the name. I've known Richard and Cathy Bell for many years and was thrilled when they moved back to Dayton OH last year, reviving the McNasty's brand on their food truck. Richard owned McNasty's, a bar and restaurant on Rip Rap Road for many years. In case you're wondering, yes, he's the one and only "McNasty" ~ and he hasn't changed a bit! Come see for yourself.
Keep an eye on McNasty's facebook page for information about where they'll be.
