It’s Friday night, and Bobbie Walker is handing out bananas by an abandoned building.

Robert Walker - FronanaWell, maybe not bananas in the way you think of them – Walker is the creator of Fronana—a colorful little cart often popping up at food truck rallies downtown and into Dayton’s suburbs. His creation—a frozen treat with the texture of ice cream but made with frozen bananas so it’s far healthier, vegan and gluten free—draws more than one curious onlooker.

“I got into this because I like ice cream too much to give it up,” a bowtie-clad Walker says as he spoons a sample to a curious set of people near the Yellow Cab Building, the latest food truck rally to bring people in droves.  “I wanted to be healthier, and this came to be.”

Everything about the cart is built with practicality for the budding entrepreneur. Walker’s cart, which he hitches to his bicycle to cart around, features half a dozen flavors at a time, from fruity mango and pineapple combinations to peanut butter—and yes, chocolate—each made by the pint.

“It’s always something that people are curious about,” Walker says as another couple approaches eyeing the frozen treats.

But for Walker, the time has come to take his growing idea to a larger concept. Fronana is currently in the middle of a kickstarter to help Walker launch the concept from a parlor into a full-fledged ice cream shop. He’s already raised $10,000 toward the $25,000 goal—which expires next week.

“It’s exciting, what we could make this,” Walker said.
