A Craft Beer Revolution Is Happening In Dayton!
If you're interested in learning more about Dayton breweries, here is a guide to several local craft brewers.
First to arrive on the scene was the Dayton Beer Company, the first craft brewery in Dayton in over 50 years. The Dayton Beer Company, currently located in Kettering, has announced that they'll be moving to the old Weiler Welding building on Second Street.
One thing DBC is known for is that they were the first place around Dayton you could get a growler of draft beer to take home with you. The idea is that they have large, glass jugs (growlers) available for purchase and they fill them with the craft beer of your choice. They seal it up for you to take home and when you're ready for a refill, simply bring the jug back and they will fill it again and then you're only charged for the beer. It's a way to save a little money over hanging out in the taproom while still enjoying the beer of your choice.

Sporting a skull, crossbones, and the word "toxic" on your consumable products might not sound like a smart business decision but Toxic Brew Company proves that if the product is beer, people will gladly take that risk. Truth is Toxic's craft brews are delicious, not "toxic" and the space is inviting with seating inside and outside. Weekend evenings are pretty busy at Toxic, so if you're looking to try a flight, an evening in the work week might be your best bet.
Toxic names many of their beers after their neighbor businesses in the Oregon District, which is fun and unique. Toxic currently sells their beer in about 30 other local pubs and eateries, so go ahead, fall in love with TCB's brews and ask for them in your favorite eateries!

Located in Centerville, Lock 27 draws just as many people with their delicious small plates, appetizers, and sandwiches as with their craft beer. Lock 27's owner Steve Barnhart sought to create a gastro-pub vibe by offering fresh and flavorful regular menu items as well as several specials daily that you won't find on the menu.
The beer is the perfect complement to the food - by brewing in small batches, Lock 27 is able to create some seriously unique beers. The house beer rotates so if you have a while between visits, it's a great idea to order a flight to see what's new!

Unlike any other brewery in the Dayton area, Eudora Brewing Company in Kettering gives its customers a chance to be the brewmaster. They provide the equipment, ingredients, and recipes (and I'm going to guess, a ton of advice!) you just put it all together and come back to bottle your creation.
Eudora also offers a selection of beers that they've made for those of us who prefer to let the pros handle it!

Warped Wing transformed an old foundry less than 2 blocks north of the Oregon District into an industrial beauty with an open layout so that it's always possible to take a glimpse of the equipment used to make the beer you're drinking.
They are open air, which means you get to sit inside, feel the breeze (when the overhead door is open), and watch the sun set over downtown Dayton's skyline while enjoying a flight or a pint.
In addition to being able to enjoy WWBC beers in their tasting room, their three core beers are now available in cans for sale all over the Dayton area! WWBC honors Ermal Fraze, the Dayton inventor of the pull tab with their ever-popular Ermal's Cream Ale.

The Trapshoot may have left Vandalia years ago but they are probably kicking themselves now that Hairless Hare has opened up right across the street, offering a full menu of great craft brews.
Open for just a year now, they already have a large following and people love to spend time enjoying their beer while eating pizza, playing giant Jenga, listening to bands, or just spending some time catching up with friends.

Despite being open for more than a year, Fifth Street Brewpub only recently started brewing and serving their own craft beers. It's great to see a newly established brewpub in St. Anne's Hill - and their craft brews are amazing. FSB has two buildings: the tavern, which offers food and a wide variety of craft beers (yes, they serve beers other than just their own) and the brewing facility where they make their beer. The two are separated by a biergarten with several picnic tables, perfect for summer nights.
Fifth Street Brewpub is a member owned co-op where customers have the chance to become part owners by purchasing a life membership. They have made the deal even sweeter by setting up a fun point system with prizes ranging from appetizers to being able to select the next beer to be tapped.

Chances are you've tried Yellow Springs Brewery's brews somewhere other than Yellow Springs because several Dayton-area bars and restaurants have been serving their creative beer since they started brewing back in the spring of 2013.
Yellow Springs' taproom hosts food trucks every evening and even features art from local artists on their walls, which is a great way to commemorate their being located in one of the most artistic cities ever. And if you're curious about the brewing process, check out their brewery tours Saturdays at 4:00pm.

Technically not a brewery, in that they don't brew craft beer, Belle of Dayton distills small batch spirits in their Oregon District distillery. Enjoy a taste of their first creation - small batch corn vodka - in their tasting room and then take a look at their very shiny distillery equipment, which looks nothing like the beat up, rusty moonshine still the word "distillery" might bring to mind (well, if you grew up on Prohibition Era cartoons, that is). They have a unique vision and I think Dayton is glad to have the Belle back in operation 80 years later!
