Airline Dairy Creme Birthday Celebration!
For 53 years and four generations of family owners, the Airline Dairy Creme has satisfied customers with delicious treats.
The Vandalia eatery is celebrating their 53rd birthday on Thursday, February 16 by rolling back their prices to 53 cents for hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, and vanilla ice cream cones.
Owner, Nancy Suther is thrilled with the long-term relationship that has been formed with so many customers through the years. "It's an amazing feeling, particularly when you consider that four generations of our family have worked here. For more than half a century families, their children, their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren have stopped by for soft serve ice cream, sandwiches, homemade soups and soft pretzels. We feel blessed to have that kind of support from our loyal customers," said Suther.
While well known for their ice cream, Dairy Creme has always prided themselves on serving a vast variety of menu items, including fish and shrimp dinners, boneless pork rib sandwiches, grilled chicken sandwiches and more. In the winter months a rotating array of homemade soups is offered, such as chili, chicken noodle, potato, beef vegetable. In addition, on Thursday nights they host the Ohio Cruisers Car Club, for which many people stop by to see the Classic Cars and get a bite to eat.
One thing that hasn't changed over the 53 years in business is the affordability of Dairy Creme. "We're a small, family owned restaurant in a sea of fast food franchises in the tiny town of Vandalia. Before the local GM plant up the road closed, we'd feed factory workers affordable lunches and dinners. Today, we offer the same cooked to order food at an affordable cost. Our father always described our niche in the market as, "Good food, fast'," said Suther.
For many of the high school and college students in Vandalia, Dairy Creme provided them with their first jobs, including Suther. She started at 14 years old, and never envisioned to eventually be running the place. "Our loyal customers, our Facebook following, and word of mouth have helped sustain us. People appreciate that Dairy Creme is a family owned business. With their support we will continue to serve up great food and make more good memories," she said.
The Airline Dairy Creme is located at 224 N. Dixie Drive in Vandalia. The birthday celebration is Thursday, February 16 with 53 cent pricing, but equal goodness is served all year round.
