The National Geographic series is returning to the Victoria Theatre! From amazing animals to incredible people to real life struggles around the world, National Geographic tells all the fascinating stories.
My brothers and I love to look at the photos, and I read the articles. So when the Victoria Theatre Association asked me to cover the National Geographic events last year, I couldn't wait. The Nat Geo series keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Thanks to the series, I have become a huge fan of Paul Nicklen, a Nat Geo photographer, and I follow him on Instagram.
I have come to the conclusion that Nat Geo should come and do an article on my family's farm! We have it all - amazing animals, interesting people and real life challenges. It's perfect! Farm life is both exciting and hard. You always have to be ready for anything - from birthing new animals to big storms and even predators. Being capable of handling these challenges makes you a stronger person.
We have lots of funny animals on our farm. We raise goats, chickens, cows, and pigs and one really mean rooster named Lester. Not too many days go by without an "animal incident" like an escaped cow standing in the front yard or a goat eating its way through my mom's garden. Raising livestock is hard work, but the animals do keep it interesting.
Our farm is located in Waynesville, OH. There are lots of farmers here. Of all the people I have met in Waynesville, the farmers are very kind. It's sometimes amusing to talk to them because they will go on rambling into a story about wrangling cattle or their favorite tractor. They are also really helpful. Farming is kind of new to our family. We have met lots of people here who reach out a hand, or a tractor, or a pitchfork to help. That's really nice.
We have faced many struggles on our farm. Once in the middle of a storm, the wind blew off the roof to our chicken coop. The hens were scared and squawking and Lester just kept crowing. So in the middle of a 64 mph wind storm, my dad and I had to create a makeshift roof and install it! We laugh about it now, but it wasn't too funny then!
These are just some of the reasons I think National Geographic could write a story about our farm. While we have struggles, the cool people and animals make every day exciting. I would encourage you to not miss the National Geographic series at the Victoria Theatre. Learning about the world is so interesting and maybe you will see how adventurous your own back yard can be. It's fun for the whole family!
