Fireworks fun in the kitchen with Mister C!
Follow along with Mister C to make beautiful firework displays of color using milk, dish soap and a cotton swab applicator. We use soap every day to get rid of grease and grime on our dishes and hands. During this experiment, you’ll see first hand how the soap and proteins in the milk interact to create a colorful display! The soap is working to connect to the fat molecules in the milk and that motion is what allows us to “see” this fun and colorful experiment.
Materials:
Dish Soap
Milk
Cotton Swab Applicators
Paper Plates
Food coloring
Follow along with the video to complete the experiments. Consider how you could experiment with the process. What might happen if you use whole milk vs. 2% milk? What about 1% or skim? Does the color explosion react differently with the different amounts of fat?
Full STEAM Ahead is a channel created for ThinkTV’s STEM World that celebrates the world of science with :60 second STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) experiments that kids can do at home.
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, teacher, or friend, we can all take the time to help kids reach their full potential. Mister C invites you all to join him to explore the wonders of the world around us to LEARN TOGETHER!
When Mister C is not in the lab experimenting or in the studio dropping beats, he loves to connect with other learners online. Share how you’re having fun learning this week and use #LearnTogetherDayton to show everyone what you have learned with Mister C!
