Are your kids taking the Summer Challenge?
The Dayton Metro Library is encouraging children to read by offering the 2019 Summer Challenge. It includes stellar prizes for six different age groups, with the grand prize being a Boonshoft Museum Takeover for those who read for a total of 3,600 minutes. The Summer Challenge blasted off on May 17 and continues through August 3.
Parents and caregivers can register their child at their local library and get a paper tracker, or online through a link at daytonmetrolibrary.org/summer and keep track online. Minutes that qualify include time spent reading (books, eBooks, graphic novels, comics), time spent being read to, time spent listening to audiobooks, attending library programs, and accomplishing early learning activities (kindergarten and younger). A vast array of prizes are awarded for 6 different age groups for 5, 15, 30, 45 and 60 hours spent reading. The age groups are birth to age 3, preschool – kindergarten, grades 1 -3, grades 4 – 6, grades 7 – 8, and grades 9 – 12. The prizes are all associated with this year’s space theme, ‘A Universe of Stories.’ The prizes include Moon/Astronaut/ Rocket pens, a flying rocket, and brand new books.
