Voting Rap Video by Dayton-native YelloPain Goes Viral
Dayton native YelloPain is new to the political world, but he's on a mission to educate and motivate voters in the 2020 election cycle.
Titled with a twist, "My Vote Don’t Count" is all about the importance of voting, and has caught the attention of the national media, as well as Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton. "This is terrific," Clinton recently tweeted, "Thank you @YelloPain for reminding us why every election matters."
YelloPain explained why he wrote the song on Instagram, posting "help me inform my people on the information nobody taught us ! We stand in long a-- lines for sandwiches and shoes but not voting!".
The viral video, partially filmed in downtown Dayton, was released on January 14 has racked up more than 5 million views on Facebook and more than half a million views on Youtube.
Among the thousands of comments on the video to date, Corey Golden wrote of the video "Hip-hop that teaches it’s audience how to make their lives better and their futures brighter, not just telling them the same stuff about what their struggles are like which they already know. Rap that informs, as it should."
The official YelloPain facebook page has a simple message. "Before you give up, listen to #Yello".
