While no final decision has been made, the Germanfest Picnic Planning Committee is still busy making plans for the annual German celebration this summer at Riverscape.

In a statement posted on their website today, the committee said they were continually monitoring the COVID-19 situation with their partners at Five Rivers MetroParks, but to stay tuned to their website and social media for updates over the coming weeks.

"As of now, we are still planning to party with all of you at the 2020 Germanfest Picnic, but as we have all learned recently, those plans can change radically and quickly" the post stated. "The health and safety of our festival attendees, artists, volunteers, and vendors is most important to us and we send best wishes of good health to all and look forward to seeing you in August at the Germanfest Picnic in Dayton."

Judy Schneider, Publicity Chairperson for the festival committee remains upbeat. "Although the picnic is still several weeks out, an immense amount of planning goes on behind the scenes in the weeks leading up to the event," Schneider said. "Right now, we have some time, but we're reasonably optimistic the festival will take place."

Germanfest, voted #3 festival in the region celebrates German heritage with authentic German food, drink, music and crafts. The event has continuous live entertainment and festival goers can enjoy many activities, including a Bavarian Fashion Show, Dachshund Races and a traditional Polka mass.

But what people look forward to the most is the food.  Let's face it, nothing beats those schnitzel dinners, brats, metts, and of course, the traditional German potato salad.  Summer in Dayton would not be the same without Germanfest.
