Zonta Club of Dayton: Rallying for Women
March is International Women's Month, Women's History Month, and on March 8th we celebrated International Women's Day. It is fitting that Zonta Club of Dayton has been celebrating. Zonta is non-profit woman's advocacy group working toward making a positive difference in the world of women in the Dayton area. The local club is a member of Zonta International founded in 1919, a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Zonta International has more than 30,000 members in more than 1,200 clubs in 63 countries around the world.
I sat down recently with the Dayton club's President Besa Sharrah, along with members Elizabeth Borton and Courtney Strickler to learn more about the Zonta Club of Dayton's mission and their efforts to advance the status of women. They were quick to communicate their passion around supporting and guiding Dayton area women to be the best that they can be. Zonta Club members recognize that this is often particularly difficult for wives and mothers. Besa, Elizabeth, and Courtney each cited their appreciation for the support they had received from other women and wanting to pay it forward as their reason for joining the group.
Zonta Club of Dayton is welcoming new members to join their campaign to end violence against women. In support of their objectives, they welcome opportunities to assist other local non-profit organizations like the Artemis Center and YWCA by making phone calls, assisting in fundraising, collecting goods, offering scholarships, and mentoring women who need encouragement and support as they strive to become confident and independent.
Zonta Club of Dayton strives to encourage women to achieve their potential, be role models, and pass on their knowledge. Whether you are in a position to offer support, or to ask for it, they look forward to hearing from you. The next meeting will take place Wednesday April 3rd at MCL Cafeteria in Kettering at 6:30pm. Please visit them on Facebook for frequent updates and information on upcoming meetings and events.
