Take a Detour: Summer Fun in Tipp!
Tipp City is one of those places where everything seems to come together just right. It looks just so enticing to drop in when you pass by it on the highway as so many thousands do, and despite its proximity both to Dayton and to the major highway confluence of I-70 and I-75, step foot into the town and you'll find that a small town feeling pervades this community of 10,000.
That said, it's a busy place for family events, and the local businesses are all about them!
Liz Sonnanstine, executive director of the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce, tells me that despite the construction, there's a lot of fun planned in the city this summer!
Some of the bigger attractions and events coming include:
Hard Hat Shop Hop - organized by the Downtown Tipp City Partnership: an opportunity to shuffle through all of the city's most popular downtown stores, this activity lets you visit eight downtown stores with punch cards for each. There is a drawing for prizes, which Liz tells me, now include tickets to Mumford and Sons. The next date is August 17.
Tipp City Marketplace: This takes places Saturdays from 9 to 2, it's a walking farmer's market just two blocks from downtown, and with a lot of opportunity to visit the favorite shops while you're at it.
Canal Fest: A popular, family-friendly, and free summer music festival - "Nightflyer” takes the stage this Saturday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tipp City Park.
Tipp City Mum Festival: Of course, this is a fall event (September 27-29), but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the 55th festival honoring the beautiful chrysanthemum!
The secret to the activity in downtown Tipp City is that the businesses are unusually close, Liz said. While things like our current construction project can make bringing in new people hard, the businesses are quick to help each other out. "They've pulled together remarkably," she said. "It's a team effort to try to attract customers."
And of course, while you're there, you'll have a great chance to try some of Tipp's best restaurants. Might I personally recommend Hickory River Smokehouse, Sam and Ethel's Restaurant, or Coldwater Café?
