Shoes Speak Louder Than Words
When the weather turns cold, blustery, and wet we pile on the layers and pull on rain boots or other sturdy shoes without a thought, but for many children in the Dayton area adequate footwear is not guaranteed. These children may be walking around this winter with holes in their shoes, allowing all of the icy snow to seep inside. Some children may be wearing shoes that are several sizes too small, causing pain and potentially even causing serious harm to their developing muscles. Fortunately there is an organization in the that distributes brand new shoes and socks to these children in the Dayton area - Shoes for the Shoeless.
According to Shoes for the Shoeless, around 15,000 local children do not have adequate shoes that are fit to wear this year. Reading the stories shared on their facebook page gives some insight into the daily struggle these children have to face as well as the comfort they feel when they receive their new shoes and socks. Since 2010, hundreds of volunteers for Shoes for the Shoeless have been distributing shoes and socks to children in need in the Dayton community and without their help, these children might still be dealing with this painful problem.
If you'd like to donate a pair of brand new shoes (must be suitable for gym class) or brand new package of socks, or make a monetary donation, check out their donation page. Shoes for the Shoeless also welcomes volunteers - sign up here to learn more about their needs.
