Local student wins competition for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing
Rhett Fogt, a Senior at Jackson Center, recently won the Centerville Noon Optimist Club’s Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing based on a theme of “What the World Gains from Optimism.”
Fogt was awarded $100 for the honor. In addition, Fogt will be sent to the district level where he will compete against winners from other Optimist Clubs in the area for the chance to win a scholarship.
“Through spoken word Rhett did a wonderful job of presenting his thoughts about the questions posed to him,” Club President Larry Lynde said. “The members of our Optimist Club have no doubt that Rhett has a bright future ahead of him, and we are excited to have him compete at the next level.”
The Centerville Noon Optimist Club has been participating in the Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and other scholarship opportunities for decades and has been active in the community since 1968. Other programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include Community Easter Egg Hunt, TriStar Soccer, TriStar Basketball and the Childhood Cancer Campaign.
