Legal services for the economically disadvantaged
People with low incomes are taking the toughest hit from the Coronavirus pandemic. Many cannot pay their rent or mortgages and risk evictions and foreclosures on their homes. An increased number are trying to protect themselves from domestic violence. Others wrestle through challenges securing unemployment payments or other benefits to sustain themselves and their families. Children with special education needs struggle to continue learning without needed services.
Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) have a long history of providing civil legal help to individuals in need. That mission is ongoing now.
We are working remotely as recommended by Ohio’s governor, and our offices remain closed to the public. We are meeting with clients by appointment and are representing them in court and through video hearings.
People needing legal assistance should apply for help at 1-888-534-1432 or at legalaidline.org. We provide legal services in 32 counties through our offices in Toledo, Dayton, Springfield, Sandusky, Defiance, Lima, and Findlay.
