Homefull helps area homeless find permanent housing

Homefull’s vision is for homelessness to one day be a thing of the past.

When people end up in circumstances where permanent housing is not guaranteed, they rely on services provided by local charitable organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul.  St. Vincent offers their guests a place to stay, food to eat, and access to additional services that help in other ways such as Homefull.  Homefull provides services such as case management and programming to their clients with the ultimate goal of helping their clients obtain and keep permanent housing.

In 1988 Homefull got its start as The Other Place - a temporary homeless shelter that could only accommodate around 20 guests per night.  They’ve come a long way since then and are now able to help upwards of 600 people per day with expanded services in advocacy and education. In 2010 The Other Place underwent a total makeover and changed its name to Homefull, beginning a second chapter of helping area homeless receive the help they need to help themselves.

Homefull offers programming in topics such as basic life skills, job search, and employability in an effort to help their clients sharpen their skills to eventually be able to maintain permanent housing.  They even help people at risk of homelessness retain their homes with prevention services.  To do this they rely on their community partners at schools, restaurants, faith communities, businesses, and civic organizations.

There are many ways to help this effective nonprofit.  To support Homefull financially, visit their donation page and know that impressively only 3.2% of donations go toward administrative costs.  They can also use donations of goods such as furniture, bus passes, stamps, laundry supplies, toiletries, and much more - check out this list of needed items.  Of course, as with any nonprofit organization, they could use a hand with organizing donations, landscaping, and helping out in their computer lab.  Learn more about the volunteer opportunities at Homefull by visiting their website.

Homefull’s vision is for homelessness to one day be a thing of the past, but until then, targeted nonprofit organizations like Homefull are helping people find their way home.
