This year, Halloween night will be a little bit spookier than normal, as a blue moon will light up the night sky in the Miami Valley and across the U.S.
Don’t expect to look up and see an actual blue-colored moon though; a "blue moon" just means it is the second full moon of the month. This happens approximately every 2.5 to 3 years, or "once in a blue moon."
It is 2020, so while nothing is surprising, this will also be the first time in decades that a full moon is visible across the entire U.S. on Halloween. The last time this "once in a blue moon" phenomenon occurred on Halloween across all time zones was in 1944, according to Farmers' Almanac. We won’t see another full moon on Halloween until 2039.
This rare lunar event also coincides with the end of Daylight Saving Time, so don't forget to turn your clocks back and take advantage of the extra hour of sleep Sunday morning.
