City of Dayton prepared ahead of forecasted storm

In preparation for the forecasted severe winter storm, City of Dayton departments have been finalizing plans to ensure residents’ safety and City services. Public Works will prioritize snow and ice removal and street treatment for the 1,700 lane-miles the City maintains. As things begin to unfold on Wednesday, City crews will be in working around the clock. To see in detail the City’s snow and ice removal priorities, click here.

 

With ice totals expected to total as much as one-quarter inch and much colder temperatures expected, the City has been putting together its emergency management plan to ensure safety of residents during the storm. This plan includes opening recreation centers and coordinating with shelters and outside agencies to protect residents from extreme temperatures. To see Dayton’s cold weather emergency plan, click here.

 

It’s important to have certain numbers handy during a storm. Please remember:

The Dayton Police Department is asking that residents DO NOT park on the streets wherever possible to allow snowplows to clear paths on roadways and to allow emergency vehicles to get through to medical calls and critical incidents.

 

Commercial and residential property owners are responsible for maintenance of sidewalks on their properties. This responsibility includes removal of snow, ice and debris. In addition to enhancing safety for anyone using sidewalks, proper maintenance is especially important to the many residents and workers who depend on public transportation.
