-Dayton Recovery Plan investments of $1.75 million-

The City of Dayton announces the newest investments of Dayton Recovery Plan funds, following approval of agreements by the City Commission. Investments of $1.5 million for Miami Valley Urban League and $250,000 for On Purpose Academy were approved on February 1, 2023.

Funding for the Miami Valley Urban League and On Purpose Academy will be provided through the Dayton Recovery Plan's $7.6 million Supporting Black and Brown Businesses initiative by establishing a racial equity fund, creating a micro-grant opportunity fund, and assisting Black and Brown businesses in making capital investments, as well as community education and long-term capacity building.

The Dayton Recovery Plan is a $138 million framework for community COVID relief and investment for the future, made possible by the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

The Miami Valley Urban League, located at 907 W. Fifth St., will receive funds to support women-and minority-owned businesses and entrepreneurs through its Micro Grant Funds in the following categories:

  • Operational emergencies
  • Community investment business grants
  • Community opportunity grants
  • Certification program grants

The Miami Valley Urban League plans to administer more than 550 grants to Dayton businesses with the funds provided through the Dayton Recovery Plan.

On Purpose Academy, at 51 Best St., provides children with the necessary support and tools they need to keep their active minds thriving and growing while providing the foundation needed for a successful entrance into kindergarten and beyond. On Purpose Academy will use its Dayton Recovery Funds to purchase and retrofit three Class C RVs for its Pop Up Preschool. The money will also be used to purchase supplies, materials and equipment for the classroom setting, including, but not limited to lighting, tables, chairs, computers, and general classroom supplies.

About the Dayton Recovery Plan

The Dayton Recovery Plan is an opportunity to address the infrastructure, economic and equity issues that exist in the city by using a data-driven approach to analyze socio-economic, health, and demographic data to make informed funding decisions. These investments directly impact minority communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and long-standing economic and social inequities in Dayton. The Dayton Recovery Plan is our city’s innovative plan to utilize Dayton's share of the American Rescue Plan Act funds. The $138 million award is the largest grant in Dayton’s history.
