American Factory on Netflix puts Dayton back in the news
American Factory - a fly-on-the-wall documentary about the former GM plant in Moraine begins streaming on Netflix today.
American Factory on Netflix puts Dayton back in the news
In December 2008, the last truck rolled off the assembly line of the GM plant in Dayton, putting thousands of people out of work. Then in 2014, hopes soar when a Chinese company reopens the factory to make automotive glass. American Factory is a fascinating documentary about the factory’s reopening as Fuyao Glass America, and the cultural clash that threatens to shatter an American dream.
American Factory, from Yellow Springs veteran documentarians Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar, won one of the top honors at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. This documentary is also the first film from Higher Ground, Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, which has partnered with Netflix.
