The magic of glass with JLM Glass Studio
The fourth annual ArtFest, a free-admission creative festival that showcases local art of all genres, will take place at the Beavercreek Community Park on September 15. This festival invites community members to celebrate all things creative by engaging Daytonians with local artists, artisans and organizations. Each year, artists and organizations are nominated to be the festival’s featured artists, and this year the committee has decided to feature two local artists and one local organization: Josh Merritt of JLM Glass Studio, Tiffany Clark of The Mural Machine and Doom’s Rooms, a local escape room business.
The magic of glass
Born in Austin, Texas, Josh Merritt grew up in Dayton. After working as an apprentice for a local glassblower, Merritt attended the Ohio State University’s glassblowing program and earned his bachelor’s degree. Merritt has since moved back to Dayton and opened up his own glass studio, JLM Glass Studio LLC. Merritt has been a glass artist for ten years, and he says, “The magic of glass never ceases to amaze me.” When asked about ArtFest, Merritt discussed how it presents a great opportunity for local residents and artists to come together and celebrate everything art has to offer. “Dayton is home. My family is here, and I’ve always been proud of the creativity and resilience of the Dayton community.” In the future, Merritt plans to grow his art and business and hopes to build a self-sustaining studio where community members can experience the magic of glass art.
You can see Josh and JLM Glass Studio on Sunday, September 15th along with dozens of others on Sunday, September 15th for free demos, activities and to shop their art, while enjoying local entertainment, food and brews.
