Southwest Airlines to Begin Flights to Chicago
Southwest will operate three daily flights between Dayton International and Chicago Midway. This will give passengers the opportunity to connect with any of 243 daily non-stop flights to 62 U.S. cities and 11 daily flights to eight international destinations. The airline announced the new flights in October.
The flights will depart Dayton at 6:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 4:25 p.m.
Southwest's flights from Dayton to Baltimore, Denver and Orlando will cease after April 11, 2016.
Dayton International will mark the new destination with a departure gate celebration for the April 12 12:15 p.m. flight. Festivities will include balloons, giveaways, and refreshments for passengers, as well as a water cannon salute as the aircraft taxis to the runway for take-off.
"This presents a great opportunity for Dayton travelers to find and customize travel itineraries that work for their businesses and families'" said Dayton International Airport Director Terry Slaybaugh. "After a quick, low-cost flight to Chicago Midway Airport, travelers will find themselves closer to more flights to the destinations they need to go."
Slaybaugh said he expects this transition to ultimately result in greater travel opportunities for the Dayton region.
