Performing Arts Center Gallery Showcases Textile Artist Maxine Thomas
The Springboro Performing Arts Center, 115 Wright Station Way, is showcasing the work of Maxine Thomas, February 1-23, in the gallery. Thomas was introduced to quilting by two influential people in her life: her sister and the famous Japanese quilter, Keiko Goke. While studying in Japan under a Fulbright Fellowship, Thomas quilted with and befriended Goke who encouraged her to “paint with fabric.” Thomas’ work is influenced by her time immersed in Japanese and Chinese culture, as well as her many travels and trips to China, Ghana, South Africa and Fiji. Her quilts have been displayed in juried shows, invitational shows and solo exhibitions in the United States and all around the world.
An artist’s reception is scheduled for 6 – 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 at the gallery.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with some extended hours on evenings and weekends or by appointment by calling 937-748-5774.
