BODY/CYCLE
University of Dayton INDEX Gallery is excited to present BODY/CYCLE, a new body of work from alum Morgan Bukovec. BODY/CYCLE will open February 13th and run through April 20th, 2025 with a gallery reception and Artist Talk Thursday February 20th starting at 3pm for the artist talk and the reception to follow until 6pm.
Using a combination of carving, weaving, crocheting, stitching, arranging, performing, wheel throwing, hand building and lettering, Bukovec’s art serves as a portal to enter into her reality of learning/unlearning about her BODY/CYCLE, questioning the systems of oppression, and discovering freedom in both autonomy and community.
About the Artist:
Morgan Bukovec (b. 1996) is a mixed media artist, community organizer, and collector of things from Cleveland, Ohio. In 2018, she was awarded bachelors degrees in both Fine Arts and Arts Education from the University of Dayton and since has worked with several community art spaces, while generating self-led projects, art festivals, leading workshops and transforming her ideas into realities.
Bukovec is interested in how art builds empathy through personal storytelling, which inspires her interdisciplinary art practice.
Bukovec works with found objects across mediums including collage, textiles, installation, and ceramics, focusing on the themes of identity, storytelling, and fleeting moments and objects across time.
She is best known for her “are you on the menu” series, which has been awarded multiple exhibition opportunities, speaking engagements, a gift grant by the Kanyer Art Collection, and has been featured in national publications such as Teen Vogue. The power of this work led to a recent art commission by Meta Platforms, Inc.
She currently resides in Lancaster, Ohio, building community online and in-person through her free art community: Lava Lamp Lounge, which holds space for creatives to connect and support each other..
