Alexandra Franz, Brigid O’Kane, and Barbara Vogel Exhibit Artwork at Sinclair Community College
Franz is exhibiting her series, “Prima Facie.” Her paintings, nearly all from direct life observation explore a variety of color palettes, compositions, and sizes. Fayum mummy portraits of Roman Egypt inspire her naturalistic works, and her titles, named from important figures of the past, empower the persona of the models depicted.
“Known and Unknown: Figures and Portraits by Brigid O’Kane and Barbara Vogel” is a collection of life drawings by O’Kane and scanned portraits by Vogel. O’Kane produces her drawings through intense observation and translation of the model in front of her. This determined approach produces works that mirror reality and invites the viewer to contemplate how we view others as well as ourselves.
Vogel begins her work by utilizing a hand-held wand scanner, normally used on flat materials, to capture portraits of her friends. The results produce ethereal images printed on silk that are then bordered with fabric and personalized with patterns or objects related to the scannee.
There will be a virtual artist talk via Zoom on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 12pm. Visit www.sinclair.edu/artgalleries for details.
