Visions of Conflict: Artist talk and opening reception with Ziyah Gafic´
From October 18 – November 15: The exhibition “Visions of Conflict” features the photographic work of Ziyah Gafic´, Louie Palu, Jessica Hines, and Larry Price, and is held as part of the CELIA conference “ACCORD: Peace, War, and the Arts.” Benjamin J. Montague, Associate Professor of Art, curated the exhibition.
Inspired by the anniversaries of the Dayton Peace Accord and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the exhibition shares how artists have responded to their own experiences in conflict. Their images help instill empathy and ask viewers to question their own understanding of war. The photographs included in the exhibition function as more than just historical documents, but rather offer insight into the emotional and psychological consequences of battle. Artist lectures by photojournalists Ziyah Gafic´ and Louie Palu will help audiences gain an understanding of the historical context of the work and how one can express the tragedies of conflict through the arts.
