Ken Burns Vietnam Documentary

The Vietnam War is a 10-part, 18-hour documentary series written by Geoffrey Ward and directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The first episode premiered on PBS in September, 2017. The film tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive, and controversial events in American history. The Library will show all 10 segments in the program room which will simultaneously display our annual exhibit honoring our military veterans. Refreshments will be available. For School Children to Adults.

Thursday, November 9
1.  1:30-3 pm, Déjà Vu (1858-1961)/Ho Chi Minh, colonial occupation, the Cold War;
2.  3-4:30 pm, Riding the Tiger (1961-1963)/President Kennedy, growing Communist insurgency;
3.  4:30-6:30 pm, The River Styx (Jan. 1964-Dec. 1965)/South Vietnam chaos, US ground troops are deployed; 
4.  6:30-8:30 pm, Resolve (Jan. 1966-June 1967)/Not your father’s war; US antiwar movement.
 
Friday, November 10
5.  11:30 am-1 pm, This Is What We Do (July 1967-Dec. 1967)/Casualties grow, Hanoi plans attack;
6.  1-2:30 pm, Things Fall Apart (Jan. 1968-July 1968)/Tet offensive, Johnson presidency;
7.  2:30-4:30 pm, The Veneer of Civilization (June 1968-May 1969)/US demonstrations, Nixon’s war strategy;
8.  4:30-6:30 pm, The History of the World (April 1969-May 1970)/US morale plummets, troop withdrawals;
9.  6:30-8:30 pm, A Disrespectful Loyalty (May 1970-March 1973)/POWs return to a divided country.
 
Sunday, November 12
10.  2-4 pm, The Weight of Memory (March 1973-Onward)/Watergate, Nixon resigns and Saigon falls.
