Don’t miss this unique festival featuring the best of local indie music, art and film
One of the city’s hottest tickets in September is the Dayton Music Art & Film Festival (DMAFF) on September 18 & 19 at various downtown Dayton venues.
This year’s festival highlights include:
- Floydasana, which kicks off Friday’s fest with a time of meditation and yoga led by Yogi Jessica Kinzer and accompanied by the music of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” Admission is free with festival wristband or $10 for drop-ins and participants should bring yoga mats. Not into yoga? You’re still invited to enjoy the meditation as you listen to this classic psychedelic rock album.
- A candlelight vigil and memorial service for local music legend, bass player, sound engineer, and festival supporter Karl Benge. The musician passed away in May in a car accident at the age of 28.
- Performances from over 40 bands appearing on various stages throughout downtown including the main stage at K12 Gallery & Tejas, Gilly’s, Canal Street Pubic House, Blind Bob’s, Dublin Pub, and the Yellow Cab Tavern. Headliners include Diane Coffee, R Ring, and Crooks on Tape.
- Three special visual art exhibits housed in the K12 & Tejas galleries. Gem City Rocktography tells the story of Dayton area bands and musicians as captured by local rock photographers. Poster-tastic features “gig posters” from shows and events in the Dayton area and Keep It Local displays mixed media collections from Dayton-area artists.
- New this year, the film fest features screenings include retro music videos of some of the region’s hottest bands such as Ohio Players, Guided by Voices, The Breeders, and Brainiac, plus film screenings of local interest including the short film Falling Up, documentaries North Dixie Drive and The Rubi Girls, and headlining feature film Bubble.
