Dayton Airport Offers Mothers' Rooms for Traveling Moms
For nursing mothers, the airport has taken extra steps to ensure travel is as comfortable and convenient as possible.
"We know there is an additional level of anxiety that comes with being a breastfeeding mother traveling through an airport," said Terrance Slaybaugh, director of Dayton International Airport. "At the airport, we want mothers to know they are welcome, and we will do everything within our power to take some of that anxiety away."
The airport has two dedicated mothers' rooms (one in each concourse) meant to give mothers a private place to soothe, rock, nurse, pump or do anything else they need to in order to provide comfort and nourishment to their babies. Each mothers' room provides a comfortable chair and soothing environment.
To take advantage of the mothers' room, mothers don't need to do anything special. However, there is a lock on the door for privacy, so some waiting may be required while rooms are in use.
"We are more than happy to be able to provide this amenity here," Slaybaugh said. "Mothers have done so much to take care of all of us, it only seems fair that we at the airport do what we can to take care of them as well."
