ARTery Gallery February News
The ARTery is a large Co-Op Gallery in downtown Dayton and they are excited to announce Rosalie Campbell is their new Member Artist of the Month for February. Campbell is a fiber artist who has enjoyed many different fiber arts from the time her grandmother taught her to crochet as a child, followed by crewel embroidery, hook rugs and needlepoint. In her later years, Campbell was inspired by her neighbor who had a weaving studio in her basement where she sold yarn and gave lessons including teaching Campbell how to dye her own yarn. In 1980, Campbell decided to give hand weaving a try and fell in love with the interesting, but also challenging process. It continues to hold her interest even today because she said there is always something new to learn.
In 2008, Campbell took a workshop in dyeing Shibori silk scarves and really loved the process that creates so many unique patterns and colors. In 2010 she was able to pursue her weaving passion much more after retiring from her full time job at NCR/Teradata. And, today, Campbell focuses the majority of her creative efforts on dyeing yarn and weaving her scarves as she is continually inspired by new patterns she sees in weaving magazines, books and from a variety of local and national weaving conferences she has attended. On occasion, the fiber artist also creates shawls, table runners, placemats and clothing such as her Cocoon Jackets on her large loom in her home weaving studio.
She is currently a member of the Miami Valley Weavers Guild and the Cincinnati Weavers Guild. She has had her work on display and sold at The Contemporary, the Cincinnati Weavers Guild Fall Sale and a few other local events. She has participated in exhibits at the Yellow Springs Senior Center, Yellow Springs Community Center and the Springboro Performing Arts Center. And a sample of all of the fiber artists work is currently on display at the ARTery Gallery at Front Street which can be seen every 1st Friday 5-9pm and also 3rd Sunday’s 12-4pm each month.
The Co-Op ARTery Gallery currently has 16 Artists and Artisans with work on display including Watercolor, Acrylic, and Oil Painting, Encaustic, Fine Art Photography, Photography, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Ceramics, Custom Jewelry, Hand Made Textiles and Sculpture with styles ranging from traditional to Contemporary.
