Fourth Building Grand Opening Weekend Activities

Grand opening activities for all ages throughout museum galleries

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will come alive with special activities to celebrate the grand opening of the fourth building, which will feature 10 presidential aircraft and a world-class collection of flight test aircraft, along with the Space Shuttle Exhibit and huge cargo planes.

Space Shuttle ExhibitMake the most of summer vacation by planning a trip to see the newest building at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force! The fourth building opens to the public on June 8, and children and adults of all ages will enjoy the wide variety of free activities planned for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on June 11-12 to continue celebrating the grand opening.
 
In the new building, visitors can climb aboard the Space Shuttle Exhibit and walk through four presidential and three cargo aircraft. Other free activities, which take place throughout the entire museum complex, include displays and activities from more than 25 participating organizations, special costumed characters such as Stormtroopers and aliens, roaming Ewoks and an R2-D2,interactive presentations and space trivia contests in the three STEM Learning Nodes, subject matter experts and much, much more!
 
Among the aircraft in the fourth building is The Sacred Cow, used by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman; Kennedy's Air Force One (SAM 26000), which was actually used by eight presidents - Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Clinton; the only remaining XB-70 Valkyrie; the C-141C Hanoi Taxi, which airlifted the first American prisoners of war out of North Vietnam in February 1973; and the massive 96-ton Titan IVB space launch vehicle.
 
Plus, the Air Force Museum Foundation will showcase their new simulator rides in the fourth building, offer discounted $5 movies in the theatre, host book signings and have several dining options available throughout the weekend.
