Sweater weather is officially upon us. Are you ready to celebrate the new month and the new season in downtown Dayton? Get a sneak peek of everything that downtown Dayton has to offer this fall during October’s First Friday celebration, happening from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 4. You’re invited to shop the latest fall fashions at downtown’s independent retailers, taste new fall menus during happy hour at downtown bars and restaurants, explore the latest exhibits at downtown’s signature galleries, and so much more!

ART, DANCE, MUSIC, AND FILM

• Black Box Improv, 518 E. Third St.: Take in comedy from Friday House Team “Midwestern Beef” followed by a specialty show. 
• Blind Bob’s, 430 E. Fifth St.: Come and rock with Bury Us All, Bearzerker + TBA. Doors at 8 p.m. $10 at the door. 21+.
• The Contemporary Dayton, 25 W. Fourth St.: You’re invited to view current exhibitions “Curtis Mann: Precious Blood,” and “Sean Wilkinson: Flora.” Gallery open until 6 p.m.
• Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park North: Visit the latest special exhibitions including “Those Who Care.” Open until 5 p.m. on Friday.
• Dayton Metro Library Main Branch, 215 E. Third St.: Visit exhibits now on display “Explore the Gem City’s History of Celebrating Emancipation Day,” “Kintsugi Breast Cancer Photo Exhibit,” and “America the Borderland Exhibit.”
• Dayton Society of Artists, 48 High St.: The Dayton Society of Artists welcomes you to “Midwest Americana: A FotoFocus Exhibition” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Exhibition partners, the Tripod Camera Club, will provide a unique opportunity to learn more about their mission. Light snacks & drinks provided!
• Dublin Pub, 300 Wayne Ave.: Enjoy Free Juke Box Friday from 6-7p! Miami Valley Pipes & Drums performance starts at 7p for Irish First Friday before live music begins at 9p!
• Edward A. Dixon Gallery, 222 N. St. Clair St.: You’re invited to “Images from Storeytellers.” The gallery has extended hours to conveniently be part of your First Friday Art Hop. See artwork from the Dayton area, around the U.S. and around the world. Light refreshments provided.
• Art Hops at Front Street, 1001 E. Second St.: Enjoy an evening of live music, food trucks, studio and gallery hopping, shopping, and more! It is always free to attend and park at our art hops. We are a family and pet friendly community. With artwork and handmade goods from more than 250 artists, you’re going to want to get here early!
• K12 Gallery & TEJAS, 341 S. Jefferson St.: Join a Happy Hour Paint-In! Artists 21+ are welcome to bring their own drinks to enjoy while they do a still-live study in an Impressionist style! $30 per artist. Sessions run 4-6p and 6-8p.
• The Neon movie theater, 130 E. Fifth St.: See the full schedule online: www.neonmovies.com. Also enjoy beer and cocktail specials during First Friday, and you can purchase a DORA drink at the Neon to walk around downtown Dayton’ Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area before or after the show.
• Oregon Express, 336 E. Fifth St.: Join us for a spooky time as Heartsiq presents “Nightmare on 5th Street Variety Show!” Cover starts at 8 p.m. Music & performance start at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
• Yellow Cab Tavern, 700 E. Fourth St.: Join Gem City Action for a free special screening of “Outcry: Alchemists of Rage” followed by an after-party featuring live performances from local artists, food truck, local art, and more! Limited seating available for the screening.
