Pools given the green light, but waterparks remain closed—for now
Public and private swimming pools in Ohio can re-open May 26, in time for the summer season, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced during last Thursday's coronavirus briefing.
Pools at apartment complexes can also open this summer as long as they follow strict sanitizing procedures and social distancing.
Gov. Mike DeWine had ordered public swimming pools to close on April 2 under an expanded stay-at-home order, in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus.
The latest announcement does not apply to water parks and amusement parks, most of which would typically open over the Memorial Day weekend. Husted said they expect to provide more guidance for those businesses in the coming days.
Husted cited evidence from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that COVID-19 cannot spread through the water in swimming pools, hot tubs, spas or water play areas, as chlorine and bromine should inactivate the virus in water.

The City of Kettering has announced that Adventure Reef, the outdoor waterpark located at the Kettering Recreation Center will remain closed for the 2020 season.

The City of Miamisburg has determined that Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center will remain closed in 2020.
The Ohio, National Trail Parks and Recreation District has announced that Splash Zone in Springfield will remain closed for the 2020 summer season.
