Narrows Reserve temporarily closed due to overcrowding
Greene County Parks & Trails has temporarily closed Narrows Reserve in Beavercreek due to overcrowding. A message posted on their facebook page yesterday read as follows:
"At sunset tonight, the Narrows Reserve (all entrances) will be closed until further notice due to overcrowding. The gates will be locked and foot traffic is not permitted either."
Narrows Reserve is one of the finest, yet often overlooked parks in the area. With close to six miles of beautiful trails along the Little Miami River, it's a favorite destination for hiking, running and water activities, including canoeing.
Greene County Parks & Trails has also closed the Lovely Nature Playscape at the Russ, Fitness Trail at Hobson and Scout Dog Park at Pierce Park. In addition, Karohl Park will be allowed 6 cars only, for a limited time.
In an earlier message asking people to "do their part", the parks department posted some useful advice for visitors:
- Social distancing applies in nature as well! If you arrive at a park and there are numerous cars in the parking lot...move on! Go somewhere else.
- If you are in a park and there is a large group of people together...go another way!
- If you are feeling under the weather at all...stay away!
- Do not touch handrails, stay out of portable restrooms, limit the use of picnic tables, shelters and any other surfaces that cannot be cleaned
- Help with trash! If you carry it in, please carry it out! Leave no trace behind.
Another popular park in the area, Charleston Falls Nature Preserve in Miami County was also closed earlier this week for overcrowding.
