Five Rivers MetroParks delays opening ice rink at RiverScape MetroPark

Five Rivers MetroParks has delayed the opening of the ice rink at RiverScape MetroPark, 237 E. Monument Ave., in response to the stay-at-home health advisory issued for Montgomery County earlier this week.

“MetroParks is disappointed that the tradition of opening the ice rink the day after Thanksgiving will not be able to happen this year,” said Becky Benná, Executive Director of Five Rivers MetroParks.

The ice rink will remain closed until further notice. Visitors and passersby will see the guardrails and other infrastructure MetroParks previously installed with anticipation of opening next weekend. “We will continue to monitor the health emergency orders and advisories, and work with Montgomery County Public Health Department to determine if opening at a future date is possible,” said Benná.

Your MetroParks Remains Open

Meanwhile your MetroParks remain a place of solace and independent use. Each MetroPark and hundreds of miles of trail systems remain open by following the CDC’s recommendations, particularly for social distancing, limiting group size to 10 or less, wearing face coverings, and taking preventative actions when in any outdoor spaces.

The 2nd Street Market is offering a pre-order drive-through pick up in November and December. Customers must order in advance from vendors then pick up orders at the Market on Saturdays between 10 AM and 2 PM.

Specific amenities in a MetroPark may not be open, such as indoor facilities like park visitor centers. At least one restroom remains open in each park. Details about closures can be found on MetroParks’ alerts page and on individual park web pages.

Five Rivers MetroParks Rangers patrol all parks 24/7. If you need Ranger assistance, call 937-225-HELP (4357). Call 911 for emergencies. Although park offices and the MetroParks main office are closed to the general public, staff can be reached by calling 937-275-PARK (7275) or completing the contact form at metroparks.org/contact.
