DeWine announces loosening of COVID-19 restrictions

Gov. Mike DeWine has announced that sporting and entertainment events including theaters will soon be cleared to reopen with a 25 percent maximum indoor capacity and a 30 percent maximum outdoor capacity, providing the venues follow established COVID-19 protocols.

DeWine said during the press briefing on Thursday that he plans to announce further changes to the guidance regarding fairs and festivals, as well as proms, graduations, and wedding receptions at a later date.

"It's a start," DeWine said, suggesting that if the situation improves in spring and into the summer, restrictions could be relaxed further. DeWine cited downward COVID-19 hospitalization trends as a reason for optimism.

Gov. Dewine also cautioned against relaxing too much, too quickly, especially when it comes to mask-wearing and social distancing.

"The whole goal here will be to get us back to where we want to be," said DeWine. "To get back to what our lives were before the pandemic."
