Dayton Art Institute faces a fundraising gap of $1 million due to COVID-19 crisis
The Dayton Art Institute, which closed in mid-March in response to the state's mandate prohibiting mass gatherings, is facing a fundraising gap of at least $1 million as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"This is one of the most important messages I have ever written," Michael R. Roediger, the museum Director and CEO said in a special message to supporters.
"As a result of this closure, and the resulting cancellation or postponement of many museum events, including Art Ball, the museum will face an unprecedented financial crisis, forcing our leadership to make tough decisions."
Those decisions could result in a reduction of staff, postponed programming for children and families, and the cancelation of needed museum maintenance.
"I know you really care about the power of art to change lives," Roediger said, "and I need your help, now more than ever, to support our mission to create meaningful experiences with art that are available to all."
To help close the gap created by the pandemic, the DAI is seeking donations to its annual fund.
The DAI is expected to remain closed through at least July 1, and all events and programs through June 30 have been canceled or postponed. In addition, registration for Summer Art Camps has been suspended, and all scheduled camps have been canceled.
